What is a Shopdominium?
A shopdominium, as the name indicates, is the cross between condominium and a shop.
In other words, a property that accommodates both a workshop and a living space, which is slighly similar to a shouse ( which consists of a house and commercial space).
Commonly, they are also referred to as "barndominiums with a shop".
Having a dedicated working area, shop, or a room for a particular hobby is a very desirable feature for many homeowners. Specially, when its correctly divided from your living quarters. It's the perfect cross between convenience and productivity.
Is There a Difference Between a Shopdominium and a Barndominium?
It's common to hear some confusion when someone attempts to describe the difference between a shopdominium and a barndominium. The terms are sometimes used interchangeably, but they two different things.
As mentioned previously, a shopdominium is a combination of living space and shop space. Generally, the living space will be situated on the second floor above the shop / garage area.
A bandominium is a type of home that is built using a steel frame and metal, or brick, stone, and/or wood, meant to resemble traditional barn, with open floorspace and vaulted ceilings. Barndo's can include shops within their plans, but they are usually reffered to: "barndominiums with shops".
Shopdominium Plan Recommendations
Shopdominium plans can structurally look somewhat similar since they are trying to serve the same purpose. Mayor variations will come down to the layout, the size of the build and the stylization of the design. Remember that any plan can be altered to fit your specific needs.

This two-story plan is beautiful and elegant. It has all the amenities you would have in a regular house and more. The first floor is comprised of a 3 car garage and a work area measuring 6'- 10" x 12'-10" , great for setting up a workbench and tools. Additionally, you have a big catering kitchen with a pantry, a powder room and a spacious outdoor porch.
On the second floor you'd have a second standard kitchen, with a kitchen island, a breakfast area by the window, a living room, a second but smaller pantry and laundry room, followed the full bath and the main bedroom.

1833 SQ. FT
This stylish two-story building has a 3 car garage and a 1 bedroom apartment on its second. Fully equipped with walk-in closet, a full bathroom and living area, comprised of a kitchen, a small dining space, and living room. This plan was designed to keep the guest's confort in mind, and has transom windows that let in natural light. There are also gable vents and the exterior is a mixture of stone and siding, making it unique and quaint.

This garage dominium apartment plan features a spacious two-story design with 4 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms.
The main living areas are open-concept and include a great room, kitchen, and dining area. A large outdoor living space is provided with a covered patio, perfect for entertaining.
The master suite is located on the main level and features a luxurious bath and large walk-in closet. A 2-car garage and mudroom provide convenient storage and access to the main level.

This shopdominium comes with all of the necessities you will find in a regular house, but with an open floor plan. It comes with a vaulted living room, which is the first thing you are inside. It also has an open concept kitchen, and an optional second floor.
The master bedroom has an ensuite closet and bathroom. There are two additional bedrooms besides the master that share a bathroom. Additionally you have a dedicated laundry room and pantry.
With the optional second floor you'd get two additional bedrooms, storage area, and a loft as a bonus room.

2717 SQ. FT
The Autumn Dew Plan is a bit similar to the Modern Barndo plan discussed above. It has high vaulted ceilings visible as soon as you walk in, a great a room, open concept kitchen and dining area situated side by side.
By the front door, you will find an office, a laundry room and a pantry.
The master bedroom is at the opposite end of the build and it includes an ensuite bathroom and closet. Adjacent to the master, you have the second bedroom which has their own ensuite bathroom and closet as well.
This shopdominium also has 2 covered porches, and a three-car garage or shop.
On the second floor you'll find a loft area, a bedroom, the third bathroom and the access to the third floor, which is just an attic.

This is one of our favorite barndo plans with a shop, and we think you'll be able to tell why from the images.
As the name suggests, this is a modern style lodge barndominium plan with a two car garage, and an RV garage that can be a shop. It is a two-story open concept plan that accounts for all necessities and modern commodities.
From the foyer, you will get into a vaulted lodge room that has fireplace. This fireplace connects to a kitchen and adjoining casual dining. However, there is another dining room, a private one, adjacent to the foyer.
The main floor also holds a master bedroom, a walk-in closet, and a bathroom.
In other words, the main and second floor have a master bedroom each. You will also find a laundry room, pantry, and an extra bedroom on the main floor. The second floor also features an exercise room and other amenities.
Shop / Garage
This barndominium has an entrance that leads you into a massive lodge room measuring:
19' - 5" x 30' - 0" , and a 12' - 7 " vaulted ceiling!
It feels extra cozy since the fireplace is at the centre of the room, surrounded by the living space, dinning area and kitchen. On the outside, this fireplace can also be used from back porch.
The master bedroom has a dedicated bathroom, a walk-in closet and second fireplace. The also bathroom leads out to an open deck and would be a great morning coffee spot.
The two additional bedrooms are situated on the same floor and share a bathroom.
The house plan is also equipped with a laundry room, an RV garage, and a two-car garage which could double as a shop space. This plan has a basement that contains a bunk room, a utility room, a spa room and a kennel!
